Heathlands Course at Legends Resort
The Heathlands is one of three courses situated on resort property at the Legends. This 4 1/2 star layout was recognized as "One of the Top 10 New Resort Courses in the World" upon opening, by Golf Magazine. Designed by Tom Doak, this gem was created with an artistic touch with the contours of the land dictating the flow of the layout. The links style flavor is reminiscent of time honored courses such as St Andrews, Lahinch and Cruden Bay.
Windswept hills and deep faced bunkers (there are 60 sand traps situated near the landing zones or greenside) are two of the characteristics which challenge the games of all levels of players. Water hazards also come into play on 11 of the holes, but golfers will encounter wide forgiving fairways that have significant room for error. The large undulating green complexes demand more accuracy, as they are often well protected by bunkers and swales that feed into collection areas.
There are 4 sets of tees that play to distances and slopes measuring 6959 yards/131 slope, 6584 yards/127 slope, 6248 yards/124 slope and 5065 yards with a slope rating of 121 from the red tee boxes. As these slopes indicate, there is challenge from the back tees, but the intermediate and forward tee areas present a fair round for resort golfers and mid to high handicappers.
On property is a full scale practice facility with targeted grass range, short game area for chipping and sand game practice, as well as a large putting green. The three courses share a clubhouse which includes a spacious and well stocked pro shop, restaurant/lounge open for breakfast and lunch items, and locker rooms with showers for men and women. The Elsa Pub is also a favorite watering hole in the area, with lunch and dinners menus presented daily.
The Heathlands - located on resort property, is one of 5 courses (all open for public play) that are owned and operated by Legends Resorts. The others include the Parkland and Moorland courses at the resort, Heritage Club (south, near Pawley's Island) plus Oyster Bay (north of Myrtle Beach).
