Heritage Club 843-237-3424
The Heritage Club is a 4 1/2 star (Golf Digest Places to Play) championship design that is built on 2 of South Carolina's historic plantations along the scenic Waccamaw River. Long considered to one of the favorite courses on the Grand Strand, this course features 600 acres of giant live oaks, freshwater lakes and scenic marshes that provide aesthetic beauty and create considerable challenge. The Heritage Club has been rated 33rd in Golf Digest's Top 100 Public Courses to Play for 2009-2010, and combines meticulous conditioning with southern charm and hospitality to earn its lofty status.
Five sets of tee boxes play to distances and slopes measuring 7118 yards/145 slope, 6656 yards/136 slope, 6237 yards/131 slope for men and 148 for women, 5700 yards/125 slope for seniors, and 5221 yards with a slope of 118 for men and 131 for ladies hitting from the red tee areas. 52 soft sand bunkers come into play greenside or along the ample tree lined fairways, and water hazards come into play on 7 holes. The front nine plays through a heavily wooded area while the back features more swamp areas and marshes.
Golfers will encounter large undulating greens that are often tightly guarded by sand, water or trees, and the mounded, hilly terrain creates some interesting shot selections along the rolling fairways. As the slope ratings indicate, this is a challenging experience for men and women of all skill levels. There are some considerable doglegs, which demand the proper length as well as placement, creating the need for players to think their way about this course. With 9 par fours of 400 yards or greater, long hitters will often be rewarded - as long as they can keep it on the short grass.
The property features a practice center with grass range and chipping plus putting greens. The clubhouse includes a nicely stocked pro shop, locker rooms with showers for men and women, and restaurant/lounge with outdoor patio - serving breakfast and lunch items as well as snacks and beverages. On course, sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green, and 100, 150 and 200 yard markers (250 on par fives) are also posted. Color coded flags indicate the day's front, middle or back hole locations.
The Heritage Club - located in the southern section near Pawley's Islands , is one of 5 courses (all open for public play) that are owned and operated by Legends Resorts. The others include the Heathland, Parkland and Moorland courses at the resort, and Oyster Bay (north of Myrtle Beach).
