Myrtle Beach Golf Course Review

Barefoot Resort - Norman Course - Myrtle Beach Golf

Barefoot Resort on the Intracoastal Waterway in North Myrtle Beach is a spectacular golf facility boasting 4 spectacular championship courses designed by Pete Dye, Tom Fazio, Davis Love and Greg Norman. The Norman, Fazio and Love courses are all served by the same beautifully appointed clubhouse, which features a pro shop, changing area with shower, and restaurant/lounge. The Dye Clubhouse has similar amenities, and the property also features its own driving range. Both properties have practice greens. The Barefoot Resort Driving Range is an expansive lighted practice facility with plentiful grass tees on a targeted range. Onsite is the Dyer Golf Academy and the Greg Normans Champions Golf Academy offering a variety of lessons, clinics, instructional programs and packages offered daily. This property also has a restaurant/lounge that is open in the evenings.

World Class golf awaits players at Barefoot - with all four courses located right on property. The Love Course was rated the # 1 course in Myrtle Beach by Golf Digest, and with natural marshes, majestic pines, sprawling waste areas and white sand bunkers providing challenge and aesthetic beauty. The Dye Course is a semi-private facility, but is available to guest staying on property at the resort. All four courses have carts with rear weather covers, ball & club washers, and coolers. Visage GPS is also standard on all carts, providing accurate information from tee to green.

NORMAN COURSE

The photos in this review are of the Norman Course, which features large, mildly undulating greens with significant recovery room - making this perhaps the most score-able layout on the property. There are 59 soft sand bunkers scattered about the fairways and situated greenside, and water hazards come into play on 7 of the holes. The sand traps are often sprawling and an abundance of waste areas also create the need for good sand play. The manicured fairways are pine lined with some tight landing zones, and natural areas are featured on several holes with some forced carries that are reasonable in length. The green complexes are slightly raised, but there is often ample room for error. Beginners and resort golfers can certainly get by here...

There are enough hazards to challenge the best of players, and the surrounding environment makes this a pleasant golf experience for all levels of players. The par five ninth, with a creek fronting the green complex, is one of the more beautiful and challenges, and the back side has several memorable holes. Elevation comes into play as the beautiful par five 15th plays uphill while the following par three plays noticeably downhill approach over a creek. The closing hole is another challenging par five with another stream crossing in front. Five sets of tee boxes play to distances and slopes measuring 7035 yards/140 slope, 6487 yards/130 slope, 5718 yards/116 slope for men and 120 for women, 5467 yards/110 slope and 4953 with a slope of 113 for ladies hitting from the forward tees.
