The Moorland Course is one of three championship layouts that are situated on resort property. Rated 4 1/2 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play, this course was also honored as one of the Top 5 New Public Courses in America upon opening! This P B Dye design is considered to be one of the strongest challenges on the "Strand" and is reminiscent of the PGA West Stadium Course in the Palm Springs area.
Multi leveled fairways with deep faced bunkers as well as the signature bulkheads make this course one of the area's most requested rounds. There are no easy lies in the mounding and grassy swales that surround most of the challenging, raised green complexes. Golfers will be challenged to go for the flag - as missing these greens on the approach can result in some extremely tough up and down situations. There are 64 sand bunkers including all the expansive waste areas, which guard the greens and also help to define the landing zones along the manicured fairways. Water hazards also come into play on 7 holes.
There are 4 sets of tee areas that play to distances and slopes measuring 7017 yards/136 slope, 6519 yards/130 slope, 6168 yards/126 slope and 4871 yards with a slope of 118 from the forward tees. It's a challenging experience for all levels of golfers, but the two front tee boxes are quite player friendly. On course yardage s are marked every 25 yards from 200 to 75 (from 250 on par fives), and color coded flags indicate the day's front, middle or back hole locations.
On property is a full scale practice facility with targeted grass range, short game area for chipping and sand game practice, as well as a large putting green. The three courses share a clubhouse which includes a spacious and well stocked pro shop, restaurant/lounge open for breakfast and lunch items, and locker rooms with showers for men and women. The Elsa Pub is also a favorite watering hole in the area, with lunch and dinners menus presented daily.
The Moorlands - located on resort property, is one of 5 courses (all open for public play) that are owned and operated by Legends Resorts. The others include the Heathland & Parkland courses at the resort, plus Oyster Bay (north of Myrtle Beach), Heritage Cl;ub (south near Pawley's Island).
